Arecibo defeated the Cangrejeros

The Arecibo Capitanes defeated easily the Santurce Cangrejeros 91 - 75,
last Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at the Coliseum Manuel "Petaca" Iguina of
Arecibo. The game was the second between the two teams in this season of
the National Superior Basketball League. With the game, Arecibo scored
his eighth win in a row and improved their record to 15 and 3, becoming
the absolute leader of the Tournament.
Arecibo had an offensive attack that led to a push of 9-3 at the
beginning of the meeting. This sequence started with two free throws by
Larry Ayuso, followed by four consecutive points by Jeff Aubry and again
emerged the figure of Larry Ayuso, who scored another triple. For a few
moments, seemed that Santurce have some answers in the hands of Walter
Hodge and Michael Sweetney, but Arecibo finished the quarter very
strong. Subtracting 1.4 seconds, Angelo Reyes managed a triple, just as
the clock expired. Thus, the Capitanes pulled away on the scoreboard 26 -
21.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Tim Pickett opened the
hostilities for the Capitanes. He achieved a three-point basket that
brought the board 31 by 25 in favor of Arecibo. Then at 7:55 of the
quarter, Danny Santiago made his anticipated debut with the team.
Immediately set the stage with a curtain, that Larry Ayuso achieve out
of it with a basket from the area of the three points. With this basket,
Arecibo took off on the scoreboard 34 - 25. When they finished the
first half, Arecibo enjoyed an advantage on the board of 48 - 36.
In the third period, the Capitanes took up the action in the same place
where they had left in the first half. Arecibo remained in front of the
game and when subtracted 3:52 from the quarter, Danny Santiago began
another offensive advance, which made him to score seven consecutive
points and helped off Arecibo on the scoreboard 66 - 53. Having
completed 30 minutes of the game, Arecibo kept control 70 - 56. Already
in the fourth quarter, the action was a mere formality in the game.
Santurce has no answer for the Capitanes. The great game of Larry Ayuso,
combined with Tim Pickett and another great effort by Jeff Aubry, led
the Capitanes to take off on the scoreboard, up 20 points clear 83 - 63.
Santurce tried to revive the abyss in which it was and just as they
began an offensive push, Danny Santiago managed to strike a block and
Tim Pickett finished with a triple that lifted the fans from their
places and virtually assured the game in favor of the Capitanes 91 - 75.
For the Santurce team, most notably they were: Walter Hodge with 21
points and Michael Sweetney with 20. While Arecibo, had five players in
double figures. Foremost it was: Larry Ayuso, who scored 21 points. This
was followed by Tim Pickett with 17 points, seven rebounds and five
assists. For his part, Jeff Aubry, had another excellent game with 14
points and 14 rebounds. Also, Andres Rodriguez and Angelo Reyes, managed
11 points apiece.
