Arecibo keeps the leadership of BSN

The Arecibo Capitanes were detained at eight victories in their winning streak, when the Atléticos of San Germán were able to defeated them 94 - 77. The game was held at the court Arquelio Torres Ramírez of San Germán, on the evening of Friday, April 30, 2010. Despite the defeat, the Arecibo keep the top of the standings of the National Superior Basketball League.


During the first part of the game, the Atléticos enjoyed a great effectiveness of their bench players and were also rather effective in free-throw line. The score was tied at 7 points and then emerged the figure of Leroy Hickerson, who scored a triple that put San Germán up front 10 - 7 on the board. From that moment on, the Atléticos maintained control of the game. Once the first quarter was finalized, the Atléticos had the advantage of game 23 - 13.


In the second quarter, San Germán came to be up on the scoreboard by 16 points, 42 by 26. At that moment, Arecibo reached an offensive "rally"  of 6-0 and went on the scoreboard 42 - 32. This forced the coach of San Germán, Nelson Colón to take a time out, when 1:16 was remained in the half. After the timeout, David Cortés got a triple that led San Germán to take time out once again. This meant a 9-0 push for Arecibo. In that offensive push, Jeff Aubry managed four points and David Cortés scored 5 points. When the first half was finished, San Germán had the advantage 42 - 35. During the first half, San Germán went to the free throw line a total of 15 times, making 11 of those shots. While Arecibo, only went to the free throw line only once, after a foul on a shot attempt to the basket.


Already in the second half, San Germán had another offensive awakening that led to peel away on the scoreboard 60 - 41. After that time, when subtracted 5:00 minutes of the quarter, was the first personal foul that Arecibo received in the challenge. Despite Arecibo intensity that remained on the court, they could not be closer on the scoreboard. Upon completion of the first thirty minutes of play, San Germán had taken off in the board 71 - 57. Then in the fourth quarter, Arecibo achieved another "rally" of 9-0, ending with a triple for Larry Ayuso. That came on the board 71 - 62. Immediately, Tim Pickett scored two additional free throws, but Johwen Villegas answered with four straight points to give a respite to the Atléticos. Moments later, Pickett scored another triple, remaining 5:44 and the score dropped to 77 - 67 again. From that moment on, the team of San Germán was able to get and to increase their offense and virtually do not failed in their attempts to the basket. Upon completion of the game, San Germán got a victory over the Capitanes 94 - 77.


The best scorers for San Germán it was: Johwen Villegas with 28 points and Mario Austin who had 19. For Arecibo,  Danny Santiago had 13 points and 10 rebounds. In addition Jeff Aubry and Larry Ayuso had 12 points each. The Capitanes took their mark on the season to 15-4 and they return to court on the night of Sunday, May 2, 2010, at 7:00 PM. They will be receiving the visit of the Mayagüez Indios in the Coliseo de Arecibo .
